Strabag Oy won the tender for outfitting the West Metro tunnel between Keilaniemi and Urheilupuisto. The agreement was signed today; the total contract price is EUR 15.5 million. The contract covers technical construction work in a metro tunnel segment about 4 km long and the construction of five vertical shafts, including their surface buildings.
Strabag will begin the construction work as the excavation projects in the area are completed. To date, 92% (25.5 km) of the West Metro tunnels has already been excavated.
“The excavation work is almost finished. There is still some work to be done in Tapiola and Tontunmäki and between Niittykumpu and Matinkylä. Three out of the four contracts for outfitting the tunnels have already been awarded, and when excavation is completed at the end of this year, construction work will be in progress over almost all of the metro line,” says Matti Kokkinen, CEO of Länsimetro Oy.
The only station construction contracts not yet awarded are Koivusaari, Urheilupuisto and Niittykumpu; the remaining tunnel outfitting contract is that for the section between Urheilupuisto and Matinkylä. By the end of this year, there will be contractors at work at all stations and on all sections of the metro line.
