At Länsimetro, sustainability is an integral part of our core mission: owning and developing reliable metro infrastructure. Responsible asset management helps keep the metro infrastructure safe, reliable and cost-efficient throughout its lifecycle. Reliable metro infrastructure and pleasant station environments support smooth and accessible travel.
Through its work, Länsimetro also contributes to the sustainability, carbon neutrality and urban development goals of its owner cities, Espoo and Helsinki.
Länsimetro’s sustainability efforts are guided by the company’s strategy and the objectives set by the owner cities of Espoo and Helsinki. The Sustainability Programme brings together the principles and actions through which sustainability is reflected in everyday operations, decision-making and cooperation with partners. The programme is updated regularly and supports the practical implementation of the company’s strategy.
The City of Espoo will introduce sustainability reporting in accordance with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) as part of its 2026 financial statements. Länsimetro is developing the collection, monitoring and reporting of sustainability data in line with the City of Espoo’s guidelines. Länsimetro also contributes to the City of Espoo’s Voluntary Local Review (VLR) reporting.
