Construction contract for Keilaniemi metro station awarded to Skanska

Skanska Infra Oy and Länsimetro Oy have signed the agreement awarding the construction contract for the Keilaniemi metro station in Espoo to Skanska. The total contract price is about EUR 37.5 million.

The contract covers the construction of the station hall and overground entrances to the Keilaniemi metro station, the access tunnel, technical facilities and the outfitting of the Karhusaari tunnel. Construction work has already begun, and the station is scheduled for completion in November 2015.

Constructing the Keilaniemi metro station will require 14,000 cubic metres of concrete, 1,200 tonnes of iron rebar and 55,000 square metres of planking, among other things.

“Keilaniemi station is located in the very centre of the most significant business cluster in Espoo. We are pleased to have such a high-quality contractor working on this station. We are nearing the end of excavation and moving to the construction stage, and the project is progressing smoothly,” says Matti Kokkinen, CEO of Länsimetro Oy.

“By the end of the year, all the station construction contracts will have been awarded. So far, the planning and construction of the West Metro has taken up some 1,650 person-years. When the whole thing is completed, it will have required more than 4,900 person-years,” says Kokkinen.

When the West Metro is completed, metro traffic in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area will be continuing from Ruoholahti to Matinkylä in Espoo via Lauttasaari. The West Metro will transport nearly 100,000 passengers daily.
