Loading of crushed stone and ballast at Hyljetie and transports to Kaitaantie service tunnel May–July 2022

Loading of crushed stone at the worksite base of the West Metro rail line at Hyljetie in Espoo will take place 26 May–1 June 2022, Mon–Sun from 7 am to 10 pm and loading of ballast will take place 13–17 June and 28 June–8 July 2022, Mon–Sun from 7 am to 10 pm. The loading operations may cause some noise nuisance in the vicinity. The aggregates will be transported from the Hyljetie loading area through the Kaitaantie service tunnel into the metro tunnel. Transports will be carried out at the mentioned times and they will increase traffic between the loading area and the service tunnel.

The loading area, service tunnel and transport route are marked in blue on the map below.

The crushed stone and ballast loading and transport work is related to the restoration of the overhaul track and night-time train depot to the west of the current western terminal station Matinkylä. The current use of the space as a service and storage area will end, and when metro traffic starts up, the area will be available to metro traffic. During the restoration work between 8 May and 15 July 2022, the smoke extraction fan of the Tiistilä shaft (Suomenlahdentie 15) will be used intermittently at low power between 7 am and 10 pm. While the fan is in use a whirring sound may be heard and dust may occur in the vicinity of the Tiistilä shaft.

We apologise for any inconvenience the work may cause.
