Länsimetro recommends the use of masks also during breaks

As the developer, Länsimetro Oy has asked its construction contractors working on the West Metro to draw attention to the use of masks due to the Covid-19 situation. The metro worksite contractors have strongly recommended the use of masks on the worksite and also, for example, during lunch breaks or when visiting shops. On some sites, the use of masks is mandatory. Information concerning the use of masks has been communicated in several languages on the worksites.

As the developer, Länsimetro Oy can strongly recommend that all employees use masks, but neither Länsimetro nor its contractors have the means to impose mandatory mask use by individuals outside the worksite. We can increase communication on the matter and stress the importance of acting responsibly during this difficult time.

In order to prevent the spread of the virus, construction contractors on the metro worksites have also adopted other measures besides the use of masks. Contractors recommend focussing on hygiene, getting tested for the virus with even the slightest symptoms and not coming to work when sick. In addition, the times when people arrive to work and take their meals have been staggered and, for essential meetings, people work in small groups while also wearing masks and complying with social distancing rules.

With the exception of the cases at the metro station under construction at Kivenlahti during weeks 3 and 4 (18–31 Jan.), the number of positive Covid-19 cases at Länsimetro’s worksites has been very low. The main contractor working on the Kivenlahti metro station, Skanska, published a press release (in Finnish) on the coronavirus infections at Kivenlahti on 25 January 2021.
