Deep in the bedrock of southern Espoo, one of the most modern and safest metros in the world is being built. The video ‘A journey inside the West Metro’s secret spaces’ takes you underground to the Finnoo metro station’s construction site. Commuters only see roughly one third of the metro station’s spaces: the platform area, elevators, escalators and entrances. Two thirds of the metro station is hidden from commuters’ view. These spaces contain the HVAC and electricity and systems that a metro of today requires and make the West Metro one of the most modern and safest metros in the world. The West Metro project involves the construction of seven kilometres of rail line and five new stations: Finnoo, Kaitaa, Soukka, Espoonlahti and Kivenlahti. In addition, an underground metro depot is being built in Sammalvuori. The metro will travel entirely underground also in phase two, in two parallel tunnels.
