Smoke extraction fans to be tested during the week beginning on 18 January

West metro smoke extraction fans will be tested during the week beginning on 18 January in all shafts from Ruoholahti to Mäntyviita in Tapiola. The tested fans will be switched on and operated at full speed for a maximum of one hour. The tests will be performed in the third week of January, starting on 19 January, on weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 08:00 and 16:00. During the test, a drone will be audible from the shaft. The sound will be stronger when the fans are operated at full speed. Dust may also be blown out from the shafts.

The shafts in which fans will be tested:
– Mäntyviita shaft in Tapiola
– Tekniikantie shaft in Otaniemi
– Otaranta shaft (at the end of Betonimiehenkuja)
– Keilalahti shaft (next to Microsoft)
– Karhusaari shaft
– Hanasaari shaft
– Katajaharju shaft
– Myllykallio shaft
– Lauttasaari shaft (at the corner of Pohjoiskaari and Lauttasaarentie)
– Salmisaari shaft

A total of 32 smoke exhaust fans have been installed in the Ruoholahti–Matinkylä section. In case of an emergency, the fans will be used for blowing smoke out through the shafts from underground facilities.

The first phase of Länsimetro to Matinkylä will open to traffic on 15 August 2016.
