The pedestrian and bike path built along Soukanväylä will open to traffic on 1 October 2021. The path is a combined bike path and footpath. The pedestrian and bike path was built as part of the landscaping for the Soukka metro worksite’s Soukanväylä worksite area, which took place in the spring and summer. During construction, the builders accessed the worksite through a service tunnel and exit shaft along Soukanväylä, which meant that it was not possible to open the pedestrian and bike path earlier due to safety reasons.

Along Soukanväylä are the metro’s service tunnel and exit shaft. Once the metro is completed, the Soukanväylä service tunnel will be used periodically for maintenance on the Soukka metro station. The exit shaft is related to the metro’s safety, serving as an emergency exit from the metro tunnel for commuters. There are nine exit shafts along the Matinkylä–Kivenlahti metro section.
Testing has now begun on the West Metro’s Matinkylä–Kivenlahti section, which is currently under construction. During the autumn and winter scenario testing will be carried out, testing the functioning of the metro station, adjacent stations and rail line systems in various exceptional situations, such as during power outages of different durations and in case of fire. This ensures that the modern metro infrastructure will operate safely also in emergencies.
