Construction continues on the second phase
Länsimetro Oy is tasked with the construction of the West Metro from Ruoholahti to Kivenlahti. The company is owned jointly by the City of Helsinki and City of Espoo. Passenger traffic on the first phase from Ruoholahti to Matinkylä began in November 2017. On the Matinkylä-Kivenlahti section, construction is under way for five new stations, seven kilometres of rail line in two parallel tunnels, and an underground metro depot in Sammalvuori.
Länsimetro Oy owns the stations and rail line of the Ruoholahti-Matinkylä section. HKL is responsible for the metro service and the maintenance and repair of the West Metro stations.
