The west metro will connect to the Helsinki metro in Ruoholahti and continue to Matinkylä via Lauttasaari, Koivusaari, Otaniemi, Tapiola and Urheilupuisto. The west metro will be 13.9 kilometres in length. The location of the stations has been determined on the basis of the number of likely users.
Shorter train interval
Once the west metro is complete, two new services will open: Matinkylä-Mellunmäki and Tapiola-Vuosaari. Trains will operate on both services every five minutes during rush hour and every ten minutes at other times. This will mean that the interval of metro trains between Tapiola and Itäkeskus will be 2.5 minutes during rush hour, and only five minutes at other times.
