On deciding on the metro to Matinkylä the Espoo City Council outlined that the designs should take into consideration the possible later extension of the metro to Kivenlahti. No decisions have been made as regards financing, but the designs of the Matinkylä station will be made with consideration paid to the optimal future direction of the metro tunnel.
