The Otaniemi contract encompasses the excavation of a station and two metrotunnels. The contract is being undertaken by SRV Rakennus Oy. The inspection of properties located close to the tunnels and the station, and the vibration attenuation of fragile equipment undertaken prior to the start of excavations. Inspections and the attenuation of equipment sensitive to vibration in Otaniemi are conducted by Oy Finnrock Ab.

Worksite base
The project's site office is located at Tekniikantie 15. The worksite areas will be fenced off carefully. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic has been temporarily rerouted near the working site area since the summer. View map.

Earth excavation and removal 7 a.m.-6 p.m. (Mon-Fri)
Open excavation 7 a.m.-6 p.m. (Mon-Fri)
Boring from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; possibly until 10 p.m. and at weekends if noise level measurements show that guideline values are not exceeded
Blasting in tunnel 7 a.m.-10 p.m. (Mon-Fri)
Blasted rock loading and transport 24 h (Mon-Sun). Blasted rock will be hauled to Jätkäsaari.
Noise levels
Noise level means an average A-weighted sound pressure level (LAeq) during working hours.
- Night-time (weekdays plus weekend) < 30 dB (LAeq)
- Weekdays 6 p.m.-10 p.m. < 40 dB (LAeq)
- Weekends and mid-week holidays 7 a.m.-10 p.m. < 35 dB (LAeq)
Preliminary timetable
The Otaniemi excavations will last around two years until July 2013.
